On 24 February 2022, Russia unleashed a full-scale invasion against Ukraine, unprovoked and without justification. This act of aggression against Ukraine was followed by reports of attacks on civilians and civilian objects, acts that amount to the legal definition of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and even genocide.
Four years later, the end is still not in sight, and Ukraine continues to pay the price of Putin's deadly ambitions:
Thousands of civilians killed and many more injured, with the true scale of casualties yet to be ascertained.
Schools, hospitals and other vital civilian infrastructure destroyed.
Hundreds of towns and villages cut off from electricity during some of the coldest days of winter.
Several million people driven from their homes, and countless families separated.
Thousands of children abducted and transferred to Russia.
Direct damage now reaching over $195 billion.
Marking this sombre anniversary, Liev Schreiber, actor and advocate, recorded a special video message in support of Ukraine, reciting a poem by Ukrainian author Maksym Kryvtsov. Maksym Kryvtsov, a Ukrainian writer, was killed by Russian forces in 2024.
